Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS)

The School District of Holmen participates in the Wisconsin Retirement System. Eligible employees are enrolled by Business Services staff.

Benefit Eligibility

Eligibility is defined in Wis. Stat. §40.22 and depends on whether employment with a WRS-covered employer began before July 1, 2011 or on/after that date.

Hired before July 1, 2011

  • Expected to work ≥ one-third of full-time (or ≥ 440 hours); and
  • Expected employment duration ≥ one year from date of hire.

Hired on/after July 1, 2011

  • Expected to work ≥ two-thirds of full-time (or ≥ 880 hours); and
  • Expected employment duration ≥ one year from date of hire.

If initial expectations are not met, the District reevaluates on the one-year anniversary. If the hours requirement has been met, enrollment occurs at that time; if not, monitoring continues on a rolling calendar-year basis until eligibility is met.

Contribution Rate

The State sets WRS contribution rates. For 2025, the total rate is 13.9%, split equally: 6.95% employee and 6.95% employer.

  • The employee pays 100% of the employee portion.
  • The District pays 100% of the employer portion.
