Supporting students and families facing housing instability with access, dignity, and opportunity.
Who Qualifies?
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act defines homeless children and youths as those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes students:
- Sharing housing due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason
- Living in hotels, motels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to lack of alternative housing
- Staying in emergency or transitional shelters
- Abandoned in hospitals
- Living in places not meant for regular sleeping (cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, etc.)
- Children and youth in these situations who are also migratory
🎒 Immediate Enrollment
Students can enroll and attend immediately—even without records or proof of residency.
🚍 Transportation
Eligible students receive transportation to their school of origin to ensure stability and continuity.
🤝 Equal Opportunities
Students are not segregated or stigmatized due to homelessness and have full access to all programs.
📝 Parent Participation
Families receive notices, access to student records, and opportunities for involvement in education.
📄 Written Explanation & Appeals
Any school decision regarding enrollment or placement comes with a written explanation and appeal process.
