School District of Holmen Wellness Policy
The Board recognizes that good nutrition and regular physical activity affect the health and well-being of the District's students. Furthermore, research suggests that there is a positive correlation between a student's health and well-being and their ability to learn.
Schools alone, however, cannot develop in students healthy behaviors and habits with regard to eating and exercise. If you are looking for ways to help promote and support healthy behaviors, refer to the resources below.

🍎 Healthier Classroom Snacks ▼
The District is committed to serving healthy meals to our students. The school meal programs aim to improve the diet and health of school children, model healthy eating patterns, and support healthy choices while accommodating cultural food preferences and special dietary needs.
General Guidelines
- Snacks should support learning, not replace meals.
- Keep snacks simple, clearly labeled, and allergy-aware.
- When in doubt, choose fresh fruits or vegetables.
- Snacks should meet USDA Smart Snacks standards (use the Smart Snacks Calculator if unsure).
- Emphasize whole foods when possible (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy).
- Be mindful of allergies and follow school guidance on nut-free or allergen-aware practices.
- Avoid desserts, candy, chips, high-fat/high-sodium snacks, and homemade foods (food safety and allergy concerns).
