Planning for Success in 2020-2021
The school districts of Holmen, La Crosse, Onalaska, and West Salem are working collaboratively with the La Crosse County Health Department in development of a plan to ensure that appropriate precautions and safety measures are in place to bring students back to campus in the fall. In preparation, our districts are planning for a variety of scenarios to ensure that high quality instruction continues in every possible scenario.
In 2020-21, the in-person school day will look different for the safety of all staff and students. This includes but is not limited to limiting movement of students from classrooms, creating situations with limited mixing with others, instituting frequent hand-washing, and possibly the use of face masks and other appropriate Personal Protective Equipment depending on the situation. With additional training for teachers and a consistent online learning platform, we will ensure high quality and engaging learning continues in every scenario.
We realize, however, that there may be some families who will not be comfortable with in-person schooling for a variety of reasons, and we strive to accommodate all of our students during this uncertain time. In partnership, the school districts of Holmen, La Crosse, Onalaska, and West Salem are creating the Coulee Region Virtual Academy for grades K-12. Taught by highly qualified teachers from local districts, students will engage in rigorous, state-of-the-art curriculum in a virtual learning environment. The Coulee Region Virtual Academy allows you to remain part of your current district and therefore is completely free of charge. We advise a semester long commitment and adult support for our youngest learners. The Coulee Region Virtual Academy option would be different from the distance-learning that was experienced in the 2019-20 school year. By opting into this alternative school setting, your child(ren) would be virtual whether or not in-person school was being held. Please see our
