Assessment Testing Information and Results

Student Assessment

Assessment systems, including classroom and large-scale assessments, focus on improving student learning. The School District of Holmen believes it is important to have as much accurate knowledge of each student's achievement as is possible through the district curriculum expectations and proficiency levels, standardized assessments, multiple classroom assessments, alternate assessments and other nonacademic correlates (e.g., work habits, citizenship, and other factors that impact learning). This approach demonstrates a balanced, comprehensive, and instructionally relevant assessment system.

School Report Cards

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) issued School Report Cards for our District and each of our schools, in addition to all schools around the state. The School Report Card, using multiple measures of student learning, will provide valuable guidance on how our schools are doing and where we can improve based on new, more rigorous, academic standards. The new School Report Cards not only report on student achievement, but as well student achievement, student growth, the closing of achievement gaps, and on-track and post-secondary readiness factors. Schools will receive a score based on a scale from 1 to 100.

The Common Core State Standards are continuing to elevate the level of learning expectations for all students in public education. The goal of these standards is to develop lifelong learners that are college and career ready after their entire pk-12 education. We work with great students, families and educators every day. We believe in our schools and are excited to continue to work with our amazing students as we help them achieve the statewide goal of developing students that are college and career ready and our district mission of "educating every student to achieve global success."

ACT

The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test.  The ACT has an Interest Inventory that allows students to evaluate their interests in various career options.

Students should take the ACT test by spring of their junior (although you can take it earlier or later than this, too). As part of Wisconsin's Agenda 2017, all students in eleventh grade will take the Act during the spring starting in 2015.

Advanced Placement

Holmen High School offers AP courses that challenge students academically. These are college courses where students have an opportunity to receive college credit if they pass the AP exam. These classes are very challenging.  They are intended to simulate college classes.

  • 1965 - Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) passed
  • 1972 - Title IX becomes law - Prohibits discrimination based on sex in all aspects of education.
  • 1983 - A Nation at Risk Report calls for sweeping reforms in education and teacher training.
